Pinays Marielle Corpuz and Lianah Sta. Ana are 2010 WCOPA Big Winners

Filipinos dominated the 14th Annual World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA).

24-year-old Marielle Corpuz (a.k.a. Rose Mamaclay) from Cabanatuan City was proclaimed the Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World at the recently concluded World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2010 held in Los Angeles, California. This is the same title won by Jed Madela in 2005.

Marielle bested vocal champions from Belarus, Russia, Sweden and another pinay, Kaye Miranda, who also made it to the finals. Marielle’s winning piece was the song “What Kind of Fool Am I.”

It’s interesting to note that Marielle first joined the Philippine team in 2008 but lost to Jamaica’s Andrew Clark in the finals.

Meanwhile, in the junior division, another pinay won the major title. Lianah Sta. Ana from New York was proclaimed the Junior Grand Champion Performer of the World. Unfortunately, Sta. Ana represented Team USA. She bested our bet, Little Big Star finalist Mycah Torre, who also competed in the finals.

The Junior Grand Champion Performer of the World award was already won by the Philippines 3 times courtesy of Aria Clemente in 2007, Catherine Loria in 2008 and Rhap Salazar in 2009.
