How Love Saved Sonia Roco from Killer Earthquake

There are many ways to celebrate love in cool and romantic Baquio City, but none that is as unforgettable as the way Sonia Roco did two decades ago.

Trapped under a pile of rubble after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Summer Capital of the Philippines, the widow of former Senator Raul Roco held on to dear life just thinking about her husband and family.

Roco was in Nevada Hotel in Baguio for a seminar when a killer earthquake struck parts of the country in 1990 and destroyed roads and buildings, including the one that she was in. For 36 hours, she was trapped without food and saw fellows victims die one-by-one in front of her eyes.

Join Ces Drilon-Oreña in revisiting another story of courage, hope, and strength in the middle of danger this Thursday (July 22) on “I Survived,” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.
