The Social Network is an upcoming true-to-life film about the makers of the immensely popular social networking site, Facebook.

The movie stars Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland, Adventureland), pop superstar Justin Timberlake, the new Spiderman Andrew Garfield and the now grown up Joseph Mazzello (Simon Birch).

Columbia Pictures based the $47 million film on Ben Mezrich’s book The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding of Facebook, a Tale of Sex, Money, Genius and Betrayal. The Social Network tells the story of Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg, the founders of Facebook. The screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin and the film was helmed by David Fincher.

Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg were Harvard undergraduates and best friends–outsiders at a school filled with polished prep-school grads and long-time legacies. They shared both academic brilliance in math and a geeky awkwardness with women. The Accidental Billionaires is a compulsively readable story of innocence lost–and of the unusual creation of a company that has revolutionized the way hundreds of millions of people relate to one another.

The Social Network will open the New York Film Festival on September 24 and then appear in theaters on October 1.
