‘Emir’ Flops at the Box-Office, ‘Noy’ Earns P9.9M in 2 Weeks

The very expensive musical film "Emir" only managed to earn P1.9 million on its weekend debut.

Based from the box-office report of Box Office Mojo for the period of June 9 to 13, 2010, the Chito Roño film only grossed P1.9 million in 50 theaters nationwide. According to reports, the ambitious film project by the Film Development Council of the Philippines together with the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Viva Films costs more than P50 million to produce. By virtue of it’s opening weekend gross of P1.9 million, the groundbreaking film is an official box office flop.

On the other hand, Noy the Movie which is produced by CineMedia and distributed by Star Cinema raked-in a modest P9.9 million in two weeks of screening. Budget-wise, the Coco Martin-starrer has a lower production cost than Emir.

Meanwhile, Here Comes the Bride raked-in a total of P117.1 million in 5 weeks. It’s now the second top-grossing pinoy film of 2010 next to John Lloyd CruzMiss You Like Crazy.

Ruling RP box-office for the period of June 9 to 13 was Karate Kid with opening weekend gross of P44.18 million.
