Filipina Rescued from Human Trafficking in Malaysia

Assured of a decent job in a restaurant in Malaysia, she had her father sell their land in Pampanga in order to get hold of her Php 25,000 worth of placement fee. But when she arrived in the foreign land, she faced the cruelty of human trafficking.

Human Trafficking also known as Sex Trafficking is the practice of deceiving or coercing people to leave their country in exchange of low-paying jobs which are highly exploitative.

Tonight (Mar 25) on “I Survived,” get to know Gerlie, a 25-year old woman, swindled by a human trafficking recruiter in Nueva Ecija.

Upon arriving in Malaysia, Gerlie was passed on to various houses until she reached her final destination, a den which keeps all women who are used as prostitutes. She immediately called her family to ask for help but the more the police looked for her, the more she suffered from her boss’ mauling. Worse, she was raped until she was too weak to fight back. Gerlie, endured all the inhumane treatment for two months, until she managed to escape the harem.
