It was January 12 when a magnitude 7.0 earthquake shook Haiti and destroyed infrastructures including the office of United Nations in Port-au-Prince. Bacrin, an assistant manager, was in the third floor when their building started to shake and crumble.

She hid under a table when it started to shake, but she was still pinned down by heavy cement, hurting his arms and legs. Despite this, Bacurin managed to squeeze herself out of the rubble. Outside, she saw her husband Gregorio who was also looking for her in the ruins.

After two days in their friend’s home, the couple finally received medical attention from fellow Filipinos who were there to help out earthquake victims.
