It’s Official, ‘New Moon’ is the Biggest Movie of the Year

New Moon bested all summer blockbuster movies this year for raking in $142.8 million in its opening weekend.

Last Friday, The Twilight Saga: New Moon shattered the midnight opening record of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The vampires and werewolves movie raked in $26.27 million shattering the $22.2 million set by the boy wizard.

New Moon also shattered the opening day record of The Dark Knight. Claiming the record for the biggest one-day gross, The Twilight Saga: New Moon raked in $72.7 million. The Dark Knight was the previous title holder with $67.2 million.

Unfortunately, New Moon was not able to shatter the biggest opening weekend record of The Dark Knight which is $158.4 million. New Moon‘s $142.8 million weekend haul is only good for third place as Spiderman 3 still holds the no. 2 position with $151.1.
