Poll: Nilapastangan Nga Ba Ni Martin Nievera ang Pambansang Awit ng Pilipinas?

The National Historial Institute is going gaga over Martin Nievera's "pop" version of Lupang Hinirang during the Pacquiao-Hatton match last Sunday. In this line, we have three thought-provoking questions for you.

First and foremost, did you like Martin Nievera’s fresh new version of the Philippine National Anthem? The traditionalists say the song is “untouchable.” The liberals say it was very artistic and was not in any way disrespectful of our national dignity. How about you, did you like it? Did it make you feel less nationalistic or patriotic?

Section 37 of Chapter 2 of the law says the national anthem should be played or sung in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of its composer Julian Felipe. Violators upon conviction will be fined P5,000 to P20,000 and may be imprisoned for no more than a year.

Do you think this law should be relaxed or strengthened? Does it need amendment of some sort?
