BBC Apologizes for Anti-Pinay Sketch on ‘Harry and Paul’

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has issued an apology for airing a comedy sketch that portrayed a pinay domestic helper in a very demeaning manner.

According to a statement released by the leading TV network in England:

“Firstly, we’re sorry if you were in any way offended by the program as this wasn’t our intention.”

“It in no way represents real people and was never intended to offend or demean any viewer.”

“We recognize that you were personally offended by the sketch and would like to assure you that your complaint has been registered on our audience log.”

The massive complaints received by the network stemmed from the September 26 episode of “Harry and Paul” wherein a sketch featuring a Filipina maid dancing provocatively in front of a man in an attempt to seduce him. According to the two title characters, the Filipina was following the wishes of a neighbor who wanted “their northerner” to “mate” with the “Filipina maid.”

Filipino leaders condemned the assailed skit as racist and demeans the image of Filipino domestic workers and to women in general.
