The all-time top-rating movie made for television, Disney's High School Musical, is going to become a reality talent competition to be aired on ABC, according to Variety.

The ABC network is developing the competition series kinda like “Dream Academy” meets “American Idol” where contestants will hone their skills at a music conservatory after being chosen for final rounds from a nationwide series of auditions.

Just like in other reality competition, contestants in High School Musical the reality series will be eliminated each week until a final winning performer is chosen. The show will also likely feature appearances by the stars of the musical.

ABC is targeting a summer air date for the “High School Musical” reality series.

The latest instalment in the movie franchise, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, is due for release later this year. But it’s not yet confirmed if it’s going to hit the silverscreen or will return on television.
