Harry Potter Films Surpasses Bond and Star Wars’ Earnings

Harry Potter is now the highest earning movie franchise of all time beating the James Bond films and even the Star Wars flicks.


The worldwide box-office earnings of the five Harry Potter films based on the best-selling fiction by J.K. Rowling have surpassed the earnings of the 22 films featuring British spy 007, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

So far the Harry Potter films have raked in 4.47 billion dollars worldwide, compared to the 4.44 billion generated by the Bond franchise, which began in 1962 with “Doctor No.”

The Harry Potter films have also surpassed the six films in the “Star Wars” franchise, which have grossed 4.23 billion since 1977.

The most recent Harry Potter film “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” has earned around 924 million dollars since its release earlier this year and is now the all-time no. 6 top grossing movie worldwide. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is still at no. 4 all-time top grosser with $968 M earnings. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, on the other hand, is at no. 10 position with $892 M.
