Vina Morales and Kjwan Win Ikon ASEAN

Our very own Vina Morales and Kjwan took the solo and band categories, respectively, at the prestigious Ikon Asean competition in Malaysia Sunday night.

They each took home US$25,000 (RM86,900) and a trophy.

Vina Morales won the hearts of the audience and judges with Pangako Sa ‘Yo (A Promise to You), a song from a popular drama series which is very popular in Malaysia, and another song called “Feels So Nice”.

“All the singers did not come here to compete but to share music. I am blessed to have won the competition but I would like to share my victory with Jac (Jaclyn Victor from Malaysia) and Judika (from Indonesia),” Morales told a press conference.

Kjwan sang Invitation and One Look beating bands from Malaysia and Indonesia.

A panel comprising local musician Mac Chew, Indonesian singer Hetty Koes Endang, Filipino singer Eugene R. Villaluz and Singaporean composer Iskandar Mirza Ismail picked the winners.
