And the New American Idol is…

Everyone was disappointed with tonight’s show dubbed as the worst finals ever. The final two contestants, Taylor and Katharine, performed three songs each–but two of the 3 songs were chosen from their past performances. The only new song they performed is their very last of the night/season which will serve as their single.

In the past 4 finals, the final two performed three songs–one is their best song of the season. And then they will perform their “single” where the final two will have a rendition each of the same song. And then their last song would be their own choice–not taken from their past line-up, absolutely new song choice that will serve as their last card to win the contest.

The downside of tonight’s finale is that they’ve chosen to be safe. The final two performed two songs that they’ve already performed in the season. And then they each have a different single, “Do I Make You Proud” for Taylor Hicks and “Destiny” for Katharine McPhee. In my opinion, it’s a little unfair because Taylor’s song is better than Katharine’s. The judges even criticized Kat’s song.

Maybe if they both sing “Destiny” and “Do I Make You Proud” and just one song from the past, it would have made a difference. The people will be able to determine who sings the good song and the bad song better.

I will not make any prediction tonight because it’s quite obvious. Simon already declared Taylor is the winner and i can’t disagree. Taylor got to sing the better single in the last performance of the night—destiny belongs to him.
