It's official, American Idol is the most popular reality tv singing competition in the world. Not only it dominates the tv ratings in the US but the whole idol franchise itself is a global phenomenon. Every country who franchised the idol brand experienced record high tv ratings as well, and the winners of this phenomenal talent search have sold record-breaking hits.

It’s also official that we are now going to have our very own Idol show courtesy of ABC 5 who gambled a lot of money to bring this highly demanding and expensive franchise in the Philippines. We may be a little late in catching the “idol” flu because as of this writing, the idol fever already penetrated Australia, Iceland, Malaysia, India, Norway, Denmark (where previous winner is a Filipino), Portugal, Kazakhstan, Iceland, Finland, South Africa, Poland, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Canada, France, the 7 different Arab countries, and of course, the United Kingdom where it came from.

The question is…will it become “phenomenally” successful here in the Philippines the way it was in the other countries mentioned? Even before the invention of the idol franchise, we had our very own talent search show here like “Tawag ng Tanghalan”, “Ang Bagong Kampeon” and the latest hits “Star for a Night” (where Sarah Geronimo was discovered), “Search for a Star” (where Rachelle Ann Go was discovered), “Star in A Million” (where Erik Santos and Christian Bautista were discovered), “Pinoy Pop Superstar” and “Search for a Star in a Million”. Let’s face it, we love everything foreign or imported so it may become a fever here also. OR, the case about McDonalds where the Philippines is the only country where it’s not the no.1 fastfood chain might also be the case for Philippine Idol.

Just a few weeks left and we will see. As for me…hell yeah! I’m excited about this show. I can’t wait u know.
