UAAP Badminton Kicks Off this Weekend

Badminton in UAAP is set to begin this Saturday, August 6, with defending champions, University of Santo Tomas (UST) going for a fourth straight men’s crown, and Far Eastern University (FEU) reclaiming women’s titles at the Badminton Hall of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.

University of Sto. Tomas (UST) opens its campaign against National University (NU) at 9 a.m. Other matches for the day include University of the Philippines (UP) versus Far Eastern University (FEU), Ateneo versus De La Salle and University of the East (UE) against Adamson University.

Also on Saturday, the women’s matches begin at 1 p.m. with FEU vs UE; UP vs Ateneo; De La Salle vs UST; and Adamson vs NU.

The badminton tournament resumes on Sunday, August 7, and will also be played on August 13, 14, 20, 21 and 28 and on September 10, 11 and 17.

UP has won the most titles in the UAAP Badminton Championship with 5 for men and 6 for women. UST and Ateneo are tied in second place with 4 wins each for men and 1 win each for women.

UP also won “double crown” (winning both Men’s and Women’s) for four consecutive years (1997-2000). Ateneo only had one double crown in 2003-2004 while FEU won double crown in the 2006-2007 Season.
